Men's Water Polo Receives Preseason Ranking
WASHINGTON, Pa. – As the start of the 2013 season approaches, the Washington & Jefferson men’s water polo team received a preseason ranking of ninth in the CWPA Division III national poll.
W&J, which finished unranked in the final 2012 poll, received 35 points, placing the Presidents ahead of the tied 10th-ranked teams La Verne and Connecticut College. The Presidents played their way to a fourth-place finish in last year’s Division III Eastern Championship.
Presidents’ leading scorer and ACWPC D-III Men’s All-America team selection Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) returns this fall for his junior campaign to highlight the offensive attack.
Pomona-Pitzer edged second-ranked Johns Hopkins by one vote to claim the No. 1 ranking. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps enters the season ranked third, followed by Whittier, California Lutheran, MIT, Redlands and Chapman, respectively. Occidental also received votes in the poll.
W&J kicks off the regular season Sept. 7 at the Brown Invitational with a 2:00 pm match against MIT.
