Mercyhurst Drops W&J 19-11
Washington, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men’s water polo team fell by a score of 19-11 to Mercyhurst on Saturday morning at Henry Memorial Natatorium.
The Presidents (2-6) were led by junior Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) who recorded a hat trick. Junior Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) both added two goals. Weiland also tallied three steals and two assists.
Mercyhurst (6-4) held W&J leading-scorer, senior Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) to a season-low one goal. Rish did add one assist and one steal.
The Lakers were led by Raul Ariza, who scored five times and Brett Luehmann, who added four scores.
W&J travels to West Virginia on Sunday to face Salem International at noon.
