Murphy’s Two Goals Help Presidents Win School Record Ninth Straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. - Junior Dawn Murphy (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored both W&J goals as the Presidents downed Grove City 2-1 for their school-record ninth consecutive victory.

With the win, W&J surpassed the previous school record of eight wins in a row set last season.

Murphy gave the Presidents (11-3, 5-0) an early lead, scoring just 59 seconds into the game after being set up by freshman Jess Skovira (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland).

The Wolverines (5-6-2, 3-2) knotted the game at one in the middle of the first half on a goal by Lydia Caissey.

Muphy struck for her second goal in the 73rd minute.  Freshman Tatum Marucci (Youngstown, Ohio/Poland Seminary) fed Murphy, who was able to find the back of the net for the game-winning score.  Murphy’s two-goal game was her second of the season, as she also scored a pair versus Carnegie Mellon on September 24.

The Presidents return to Alexandre Stadium on Tuesday when they host Thiel at 7:00 pm.
