Nogay And Staniscia Earn Academic All-District Honor
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College junior baseball players Eddie Nogay (Weirton, W. Va./Madonna) and Josh Staniscia (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) were selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-District First Team on Thursday.
Nogay and Staniscia, both selected to the first team for the second-straight year, are two of 11 players named to the District Four team, which is made up of all NCAA Division III baseball programs in Pennsylvania. The pair are automatically advances to the national Academic All-America ballot along with all other first-team selections from the additional seven regions around the country.
As an English major, Nogay has earned a 3.58 grade-point average. Nogay leads the Presidents with eight victories and three complete games during 11 appearances (nine starts) this spring. He has struck out a team-best 53 batters and garnered a 3.49 earned run average during 59 1/3 innings of work. He ranks eighth among active NCAA Division III pitchers with four career shutouts and 24 among all NCAA divisions.
Staniscia majors in biochemistry and owns a 3.64 GPA. He is one of two Presidents to have started every game this spring. Staniscia leads the team with 46 hits, while ranking second in batting average (.387), extra-base hits (eight) and runs batted in (27). He has not made an error in 55 chances in the outfield this spring and owns a career .995 fielding percentage. His .381 career batting average is 47th among active NCAA Division III hitters.
W&J (22-11) hosts Frostburg State on Thursday (4:30 pm) before opening a key three-game Presidents’ Athletic Conference series with Westminster on Friday. With a series sweep of the Titans, the Presidents would clinch the league’s regular-season title for the second-straight year and the seventh time in the last nine seasons.
