Pacific Leads Bethany To Victory Against W&J
BETHANY, W. Va. -- Brady Pacific scored a career-high 28 points to lead Bethany to an 81-49 PAC victory over the Washington & Jefferson College men's basketball team at Hummel Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Pacific drained six three-pointers and connected on 9-of-14 shots from the field as Bethany (18-3, 10-2) defeated W&J (6-15, 2-10) for the fourth-straight time in its home arena.
Freshman Doug Johnson (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) gave the Presidents a 13-11 lead with a layup midway through the first half; however, Pacific sparked a 12-2 Bison run with a pair of triples and W&J would never regain the lead.
Pacific extended the advantage to 16 with his fifth three-pointer of the first stanza. Freshman Andy Carter (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) sank a layup and junior Zach Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) followed with three points, cutting the Bethany lead to 38-27. However, the Bison netted the final four points of the first half and entered intermission up by 15.
Bethany outscored W&J 39-22 during the second half and led by double digits the entire 20 minutes.
Bellhy paced W&J with 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting. He also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Carter contributed nine points for the Presidents, who shot 44.7 percent (21-47).
The Presidents committed 23 turnovers, compared to just six for the Bison. Bethany scored 27 points off turnovers and held a 43-31 edge on the glass.
Reece Mabery and Dylan Gravatt both added 10 points, while Nick Wilcox just missed a double-double with nine points and nine boards.
The Presidents host Saint Vincent at 6:00 pm on Wednesday night. W&J will be aiming for a season split after falling to the Bearcats 76-68 on January 7.
