Peddicord and Hanna Score Twice In W&J 5-0 Victory

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Junior forward Cody Peddicord (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin)
and sophomore forward Brian Hanna (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) both netted two goals to lift Washington & Jefferson to a 5-0 PAC men’s soccer shutout of Saint Vincent on Saturday at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents (3-5-2, 1-1-1 PAC) outshot the Bearcats (5-7-1, 0-3 PAC) by a 27-7 margin.

Peddicord made a nifty move around two SVC defenders in the 22nd minute and laced a left-footed shot past Bearcat goalie Clemente Mejia.

The lead remained that way until W&J exploded for four second-half goals.  Hanna headed home a lofted pass from sophomore midfielder Paul Boerema (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) 3:07 into the second half and Peddicord followed 1:46 later off assists from Hanna and senior midfielder Jimmy Gante (York, Pa./Dallastown).

Hanna and junior forward Thad Piscatelli (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) scored 23 seconds apart in the 71st minute to provide the final margin of victory.

Sophomore Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and freshman Josh Winters (Mocksville, N.C./Calvary Baptist Day) combined on the shutout.  Best notched two saves, while Mejia stopped 12 shots in the loss.

The Presidents play a non-conference home match Wednesday against Frostburg State (7:00 pm).
