Penn State-Altoona Knocks Off W&J, 3-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Samantha Link had a match-high 17 kills to lead Penn State-Altoona past Washington & Jefferson 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-12) in non-conference volleyball action on Monday evening as the Henry Memorial Center.

Moira Corrigan added 12 kills for the Lions, who improved to 8-6 overall and notched their second-ever victory over Washington & Jefferson.  Paige Hensor led the PSU-Altoona defense with a match-high 22 digs.

The Presidents (5-10) were led by sophomore outside hitter Samantha Chorney’s (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) 10 kills and 16 digs.  Freshman middle hitter Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) added nine kills and five blocks, while freshman setter Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) recorded 26 assists, 11 digs and four kills.

Defensively, senior Alyssa Vukson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman Sarah Stedina (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) both picked up 14 digs.

W&J looks to snap a four-match losing streak on Thursday when hosting local-rival Waynesburg at 7:00 pm.  A live video webcast of the match will be available on the W&J athletics website.
