Pflumm Nets Game Winner; W&J Downs Wilson 2-1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Senior Amanda Pflumm (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) scored the game-winning goal late in the second half to lead the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team to a 2-1 non-conference road victory at Wilson College on Sunday afternoon.

Pflumm broke a 1-1 tie by netting the game winner with under nine minutes remaining in regulation.

After a scoreless first 35 minutes, W&J got on the scoreboard when senior Jennifer Marabella (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) tallied her second goal of the fall. Sophomore Gina Taglieri (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) assisted on the goal.

Hilary Swartz knotted the game at one in the 61st minute, but Pflumm answered just 59 seconds later with what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Kira Bunker (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) stopped two of the three shots she faced while playing all 70 minutes to earn her second victory.  Gina Weigold made seven saves for the Phoenix (3-5) in the loss.

W&J continues non-conference play when hosting Juniata on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
