Point Park Defeats W&J in Final Non-Conference Action
WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men’s soccer team suffered a 3-1 non-conference setback to Point Park Wednesday night at Alexandre Stadium.
The Pioneers (8-5-1) scored early in the game, tallying a goal within the first five minutes. Point Park took that 1-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the Presidents (8-5) by a 7-4 margin.
Ten minutes into the start of the second half, W&J found the tying goal when junior Brian Hanna (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) notched his fourth goal of the season off a rebound in front of the net. Classmate Dylan Small (Whittier, Calif./Whittier) assisted on the goal.
Point Park went up 2-1; however, in the 69th minute when Jonty Loukes fired high shot that found the back of the net. The Pioneers managed one more goal in the 83rd minute as Frazer McKinlay connected on a penalty kick.
Junior Jon Best (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) got the start in goal for the Presidents and allowed the game’s first goal. Best made two saves in his 34 minutes of action. Ben Wilt (Butler, Pa./Hampton) replaced Best in the first half and played the remainder of the game, surrendering Point Park’s final two goals.
Washington & Jefferson returns to Presidents’ Athletic Conference play this Saturday (Oct. 19 - Senior Day) when it hosts Grove City at 3:30 pm at Alexandre Stadium.
