Potts Posts Three Pins, Including Clincher Against Mercyhurst NE
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Senior heavyweight Taylor Potts (Wellsburg, W.Va./John Marshall) recorded falls in all three of his matches, including a victory-clinching pin against Mercyhurst Northeast, to lead Washington & Jefferson Saturday at Thiel’s Mel Berry Duals.
The Presidents (3-7) had a 1-2 team record in the tournament, defeating Mercyhurst Northeast 28-27, but dropping decisions to Thiel (25-18) and Seton Hill (36-18).
Potts and freshman 197-pounder Theron Mitchell (Mount Joy, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) notched back-to-back falls in the final two matches against Mercyhurst Northeast to help the Presidents pull out the one-point win.
Potts’ three falls came in a total of 5:23, including a 25-second fall against Seton Hill.
Sophomore 165-pounder David Dibenedetto (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched a 2-1 record, including a pair of falls. His pin against Mercyhurst Northeast helped the Presidents start their momentum for the comeback.
The Presidents will be back in action Saturday in Berea, Ohio, at the Baldwin-Wallace John Summa Tournament.
