Presidents’ Bats Erupt During Victory At Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team scored all 15 of its runs during the final five innings as the Presidents pulled away from Grove City for a 15-4 victory on Friday at R.J. Behringer Field.
Juniors Tyler Schultz (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) and Josh Staniscia (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) both went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Presidents’ 17-hit attack. Schultz slammed his first collegiate home run and collected a career-best five runs batted in, while Staniscia scored twice and knocked in one.
Grove City starting pitcher Max Vickerman worked through the first four innings by striking out three and scattering four hits, but ran into trouble with two outs in the fifth. After a walk, Schultz blasted a three-run homer, pushing W&J in front 4-3.
The Presidents (11-5, 8-1) added six more runs in the sixth to take control. Peirish knocked in one run with a base hit, while Staniscia and Schultz both plated a pair with singles.
