Presidents’ Indoor Track & Field Opens Season In Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  --  Washington & Jefferson College senior Taylor Hockman (Martinsburg, W.Va./Hedgesville) won the long jump title to highlight the Presidents at the indoor track & field season-opening WVU Holiday Classic hosted by the Mountaineers Saturday afternoon.  The meet was unscored.

Hockman produced W&J’s lone win at the meet which included teams from all three NCAA divisions.  He posted a top leap of 6.62 meters to win the title.

Hockman also helped the 4x400 meter relay team to a fourth-place finish (3:47.39).  Seniors Bryant Wang (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury), Greg French (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) and Adam Toomey (Youngwood, Pa./Hempfield) joined Hockman on the relay.

On the women’s side, sophomore Cheyenne Mangold (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Texas Military Institute) led the Presidents by claiming second place in the 200 meters (28.32) and third place in the 500 meters (1:21.94).

Senior Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) also grabbed third place in the triple jump with a top mark of 9.71 meters.

Toomey also placed seventh in the 800 meters (2:13.21), while senior Alexander Halferty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) was seventh in the high jump (1.80 meters).
