Presidents Blank Wilson 3-0; Underclassmen Net Goals (10/16)

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Three different Presidents scored goals as Washington & Jefferson won its ninth field hockey match of the season after defeating Wilson 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.
Senior goalie Shelby Colyer (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) made her first start of the season and notched three saves to collect the shutout.
W&J (9-2) opened the scoring five minutes into the match as sophomore defender Victoria Patrick (State College, Pa./State College) slapped home a goal off a penalty corner pass from senior defender Hannah Lott (Aspers, Pa./Biglerville). The shot deflected off a Wilson defender into the net.
The lead remained that way until freshman midfielder Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./North Western Regional) scored with 7:12 remaining. The goal was assisted by junior midfielder Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff).
Freshman midfielder Victoria Cox (Dover, Del./Milford) added an insurance goal with just under two minutes left.
W&J outshot Wilson by a 22-5 margin and attempted 12 of the match’s 15 penalty corners. Brandy Holtzapple turned back 15 shots in the loss for the Phoenix (5-5).
The Presidents play another non-conference home match on Tuesday when facing Susquehanna at 4:30 pm.
