Presidents Bounce Thiel; Remain Perfect In PAC
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women’s soccer team routed Thiel 4-0 on Tuesday night at Alexandre Stadium.
With the victory, the Presidents remain atop the Presidents’ Athletic Conference standings with a 6-0 record and moved to 12-3 overall. Thiel fell to 5-10-2 and 1-5 in PAC play.
W&J, the 10th-ranked team in the NSCAA Great Lakes Region poll, was led by sophomore Cheyenne Mangold's (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Texas Military Institute) two goals. Freshman Tatum Marucci (Youngstown, Ohio/Poland Seminary) set up Mangold for her first goal and sophomore Nikki Hladik (Renfrew, Pa./Butler) sent Mangold a perfect lead pass for her second tally.
Junior Dawn Murphy (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) remained hot as she tallied her fourth goal in the last three games, while Hladik scored her second goal of the season off a free kick for a three-point night.
The Presidents defense suffocated the Tomcats all night, holding them to zero shots on goal, while the Washington & Jefferson offense put 16 shots on net. W&J posted a shutout for the 10th time this season.
W&J hosts its Homecoming Day Game against Waynesburg on Saturday at noon. The five seniors will be honored before the game.
