Presidents' Comeback Falls Short at Notre Dame College

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College men’s water polo team’s attempt at a fourth-quarter comeback came up just short, as it fell 14-13 to Notre Dame College on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and juniors Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) all recorded hat tricks for the Presidents, who fell to 3-7 this season.

Freshman Carl Krause (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) added a pair of goals, while classmates Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) and Ben Mancini (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township) each netted one.  Mancini’s goal was the first of his career.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) made eight saves and grabbed two steals.  Francisco split time with freshman Chris DeNunzio (Greenwich, Conn./Canterbury), who made seven stops and added three steals.

W&J will host a rematch with Notre Dame College on October 15th at 4:00 pm at the Henry Memorial Natatorium followed by a match later that day against Penn State-Behrend at 8:00 pm.
