Presidents Downed in Both Matches at Waynesburg
Waynesburg, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team was defeated by Presidents' Athletic Conference foes Bethany and Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
The Presidents (5-9) fell to Waynesburg in five sets (25-19, 14-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-9) before dropping their match to Bethany in three sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-21).
Freshman Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon), playing in her first match of the season, had 34 assists against Waynesburg (7-5). Sophomore Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) added 14 digs, nine kills, and three blocks, while sophomore Megan Lewandowski (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) tallied 11 kills and three blocks. Senior Tessa Slifka (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area) led W&J with 22 kills.
Against Bethany (15-1), Slifka and fellow senior Alyssa Vukson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) topped the Presidents with seven kills each. Freshman Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) racked up five kills and two blocks, while sophomore Madison Rotto (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) dished out 13 assists.
W&J returns to the court on Monday when it faces Penn State-Altoona at Henry Memorial Gymnasium at 7:00 pm.
