Presidents Earn Senior Day Win Over Bison

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Senior defender Lauren Reynolds (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) handed out two assists and was part of a defensive unit that held Bethany without a shot on goal during Washington & Jefferson’s 5-0 PAC women’s soccer rout of Bethany on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.

The Presidents (10-7-1, 6-2-1 PAC), who are the No. 3 seed for the four-team PAC Tournament, will play at second-seeded Grove City on Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

Reynolds was one of six seniors honored before the game on Senior Day.  The Presidents’ senior class has won 50 games during their four years on campus and will be searching for the group’s third PAC championship next week.

W&J outshot Bethany overall by a 26-2 margin and scored all five of its goals in the second half.

Reynolds set up junior forward Holly Shipley (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) for the game’s opening goal at the 53:36 mark.  Sophomore midfielder Jess Skovira (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) rifled home a goal from 25 yards out seven minutes later for a 2-0 edge.

Junior midfielder Ariel Shasko (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) lifted a 30-yard shot over the head of Bethany goalkeeper Brittany Sadler in the 79th minute.  Junior defender Katie Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) assisted on the goal.

Senior forward Chrissy Marcius (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) netted a goal in the 84th minute before Kelly struck for her first collegiate goal just under two minutes later off a feed from Reynolds.

Sadler finished with 10 saves for the Bison (3-12-2, 2-6-2 PAC), while W&J freshman goalie Sarah Youngblood (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) did not have to make a stop during her second shutout of the season.

W&J and Grove City will meet in the PAC Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons.  W&J advanced in each of the previous two meetings.
