Presidents Earn Seventh-Place Team Finishes At Westminster Invitational
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Senior C.J. Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and junior Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) both won events Saturday to lead Washington & Jefferson College at the 13-team Westminster Invitational at Burry Stadium. Both Presidents squads earned seventh-place team finishes.
Corcoran paced the women’s squad by posting a top throw of 38.92 meters in the javelin, an event in which she qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships a year ago.
Kopchick continued to perform well this spring in the men’s steeplechase, winning the 3,000-meter event in a time of 10:14.71.
Senior Taylor Thompson (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) took second place in the triple jump (10.14 meters), while classmate Tierney Risley (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) was fourth in the 400 meters (1:12.20) and fifth in the 100 meters (17.28). Sophomore Erin Oberg (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) earned fourth place in the triple jump (9.99 meters) and sixth in the high jump (1.48 meters).
The men’s team also received a pair of top-five showings from juniors Jared Jones (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and Gavin Donathan (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane). Jones placed third in the 400 meters (51.18) and fourth in the 200 meters (23.41). Donathan collected third place in the shot put (13.56 meters) and fourth in the discus (42.27 meters).
W&J continues competition against conference opponents on Wednesday at the PAC South Quad Meet (2:00 pm) hosted by Bethany College in West Virginia.
