Presidents Hold Off Penn State-Behrend

WASHINGTON, Pa. –  The Washington & Jefferson College men’s water polo team defeated Penn State-Behrend by a 12-10 margin on Senior Night Saturday at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

Sophomore Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) led the Presidents (3-4) offensively with five goals, while freshman Ben McGrath (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif./Loyola) added a pair of scores.

W&J entered the fourth quarter leading 10-9 and senior Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) extended the edge to three by netting a pair of quick goals.  Chaves added a pair of steals on the defensive end.  Penn State-Behrend scored once in the game’s waning minutes, but would get no closer.

Freshman Kevin Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) contributed one goal, three assists and two steals. Senior Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) paced the Presidents' defense with eight steals, while adding one goal.

Junior Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and sophomore Chris DeNunzio (Greenwich, Conn./Canterbury) split time in the net and both posted four saves. 

W&J (3-4) aims for its second-straight win on Sunday when it hosts Salem International at noon.
