Presidents Host Annual Track & Field Invitational At Cameron Stadium
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Junior Cheyenne Mangold's (Boerne, Texas/Texas Military Institute) three first-place finishes highlighted the Presidents on Saturday at Washington & Jefferson College's annual track & field invitational at Cameron Stadium.
Mangold's triumphs helped the W&J women claim second place out of 11 teams with 127.5 points. Walsh won the team title with 155 points, while California (107), Penn State-Behrend (107) and Geneseo State (65.5) finished behind W&J in the top five.
The Presidents' men placed sixth of 11 teams with 53 points. Penn State-Behrend claimed the men's title with 161.5 points, while California (107), Bethany (89), Geneseo State (71.5) and Walsh (62) rounded out the top five.
Mangold topped the field in the 200 meters with a meet-record time of 25.74. She also won the 400 meters (59.02) and helped the 4x100 meter relay cross the finish line first in the 4x100 relay (50.27).
Junior Mara Spina (Stockdale, Pa./Charleroi) posted the meet's best jump of 5'0 1/4" to win the high jump, while also placing second in the long jump (15'11 1/2"). Junior Erin Oberg (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) was the runner-up in the high jump (4'10 1/4") and triple jump (31'9 1/2") events.
Sophomore Danielle Debonis (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) was second in the pole vault (9'4 1/4") and classmate Clairesa Johnson (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) notched the second-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (16.69).
The men's squad was led by senior Scott Ryan's (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) second-place finish in the 5,000 meters (15:07.17).
Classmate Jared Jones (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) racked up a pair of top-five placements, taking third in the 200 meters (22.36) and fifth in the 100 meters (11.35). Sophomore Chris Casagrande (Suterville, Pa./Yough) placed fourth in the javelin (156'3").
W&J is back in action next Saturday in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Mellon Quad Meet.
