Presidents Host Southpointe Invitational and Place Fourth
CANONSBURG, Pa. -- Division II West Virginia Wesleyan carded a team-low, 18-hole score of 373 to win the 2011 Washington & Jefferson Spring Women's Golf Invitational on Monday, April 11 at Southpointe Golf Club.
Kathryn Alvaro of West Virginia Wesleyan led her squad to the team title by earning medalist honors following a round of 86. Alyssa Gerhart of Division II Clarion claimed second place in the 25-golfer field with 88 strokes. WVW's Brittany Borkovich was third at 89.
Clarion grabbed second place in the team standings with a total of 392 strokes, while Grove City (398), W&J (415) and Westminster (430) rounded out the field. Waynesburg had three individuals compete.
Sophomore Catherine Schlegel (Reston, Va./Flint Hill) paced the Presidents after tying for eighth place with 97 strokes. Junior Tara Fatula (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) carded a score of 103 and tied for 12th place, while freshman Katelyn Vannoy (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) notched 17th place after shooting 106.
Senior Christina Brant (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) finished her day with 109 strokes and placed 20th.
W&J continues preparation for the 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday when it travels to the Mercyhurst Invitational at Downing Golf Club. The event is set to begin at noon.
