Presidents Notch First Volleyball Win in 2011 Home Tourney

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) posted 10 kills and seven digs as Washington & Jefferson recorded its first victory in 2011 after defeating Earlham 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16) on Saturday in the first day of action at the first of two days of the Presidents’ own tournament at the Henry Memorial Center.

The Presidents (1-3) lost to Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-21) in their opening match, but rallied back to top Earlham.

Sophomore outside hitter Tori Clark (Fall Branch, Tenn./Sullivan South) added eight kills and four digs against Earlham and led W&J in the UPG loss with 10 kills and two blocks.

Sophomore Madison Rotto (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) has 19 assists and two kills in the EC victory.

Sophomore setter Melody McNamara (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) amassed 17 assists in the opening loss, while freshman middle hitter Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) finished with seven blocks.  Senior defensive specialist Alyssa Vukson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) recorded a team-high 10 digs.

W&J takes on La Roche (11:00 am) and Susquehanna (3:00 pm) tomorrow.
