Presidents Once Again Score Five To Defeat Yeowomen
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Junior midfielder Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./North Western Regional) netted a pair of goals as Washington & Jefferson improved to 2-0 following a 5-1 victory over Oberlin on Sunday evening at Cameron Stadium.
The Presidents, who also scored five goals Friday night versus Kenyon, are now 2-0 for the second consecutive season. Last year, W&J won its first five matches.
Beaudoin started the scoring with a deft reverse sweep off a penalty corner 16 minutes into the match. The lead grew to 2-0 seven minutes later when senior defender Briana Savage (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) collected a loose ball, dribbled through the OC defense and lasered a shot past Yeowomen goalie Carmen Azevado for her first collegiate goal.
After the break, Beaudoin supplied another goal seven minutes in for a 3-0 lead, while senior forward Catherine Villa (Poway, Calif./Poway) fired home a shot three minutes later.
Sophomore goalie Morgan Brozena’s (Telford, Pa./Souderton) bid for a shutout ended on an Oberlin goal with 2:20 remaining. W&J junior midfielder Gina Taglieri (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) provided the final margin of victory with her third goal of the young season in the final minute.
Brozena finished with three saves for the Presidents, who outshot Oberlin by a 24-5 margin. W&J also held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The Presidents are idle until Saturday when they host SUNY-Geneseo at noon at Cameron Stadium.
