Presidents Open Season At Mercyhurst
ERIE, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College women's golf team opened its 2013 fall season this weekend at Mercyhurst's Evann Parker Memorial Tournament. The Presidents placed 16th in the 16-team field (two days, 36 holes) which was topped by Gannon.
Gannon ran away with the team title on the Par 72 Lake View Golf Club course with 649 strokes (624-625). The host Lakers tied West Virginia Wesleyan for seconds place (681), while Seton Hill (685) and Charleston (688) rounded out the top five. The Presidents, the lone NCAA Division III team in the field, posted 809 strokes (401-408).
The Gannon duo of Amanda Teodorsson and Bhanisha Nagindas tied for medalist honors after both players carded 154 shots. W&J's top finisher was senior Katelyn Vannoy (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk), who tied for 62nd place in the 86-golfer field. Vannoy totaled 191 strokes (93-98).
Junior Jennifer Suder (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was one shot back of Vannoy in 64th place after rounds of 98 and 94. Sophomore Amanda Halula (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) claimed 71st place (203--98-105), while freshman Maeve Palmieri (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) and sophomore Kylie McKenna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) placed 77th and 81st, respectively. Palmieri totaled 223 strokes (112-111) in her collegiate debut, while McKenna shot 229 (112-117).
W&J continues its fall schedule Thursday at the Saint Vincent Invitational (Glengarry Golf Links).
