Presidents' Relays Take Top Honors At Wuske Invitational

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Washington & Jefferson men's and women's distance relays both won titles Saturday at the Mount Union Jim Wuske Indoor Track & Field Invitational.  The meet was unscored for teams. 

The women's distance relay, which featured juniors Cheyenne Mangold (Boerne, Texas/Texas Military Institute) and Meghan Poinsett (Salem, N.J./Salem), sophomore Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) and freshman Keri Reeves (Calimesa, Calif./Yucaipa), posted a time of 12:56.46 to earn first place.

The men's distance relay finished in 10:44.34 and was comprised of seniors Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) and Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg), sophomore Joshua Makepeace (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and freshman Nico DeMaio (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley).  DeMaio also claimed fifth in the 200 meters (23.42).

The W&J women also performed well in the 4x200 (1:51.55, 2nd place) and 4x400 (4:34.99, 3rd) relays. 

Freshman Brittany Traynor (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) recorded the teams' lone individual championship after sprinting to the 60-meter dash championship (8.20).  She also took second place in the 200 meters (27.76). 

Junior Harley Straub (Richfield, Pa./Juniata) placed third in the shot put (37'0 1/4"), while classmate Erin Oberg (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) notched fourth in the triple jump (31'4 1/2"). 

The Presidents' men had two top-five finishers in the shot put as senior Michael Hildreth (Wind Ridge, Pa./West Greene) placed third (44'8 1/4") and senior Gavin Donathan (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane) recorded fifth (43'7 3/4").  Classmate Jared Jones (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) took fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.17). 

Washington & Jefferson is idle for two weeks before continuing the indoor season at the Kent State Last Chance Meet on Feb. 16.
