Presidents Roar Past Lions 75-51

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Nine different Presidents scored as Washington & Jefferson College cruised to a 75-51 non-conference men’s basketball victory over Penn State-DuBois on Saturday afternoon at the Henry Memorial Center.

Senior guard Zach Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) scored 17 points to lead the Presidents (5-9), while moving into 13th place on the school’s all-time scoring list (1,272 points).

W&J limited the Lions (4-8) to 27 percent shooting (17-of-62) and owned a 54-36 rebounding advantage.

The two teams were tied (15-15) eight minutes in, but W&J exploded for 15-straight points during a five-minute span.  Sophomore forward Mitch Locher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) canned a three-pointer in the final seconds of the first half for a 40-25 halftime lead.

The Presidents led by as many as 30 points (73-43) in the second half behind eight points from freshman forward Tyler Haas (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour).

Bellhy made 7-of-13 shots and added six rebounds, while sophomore forward Nate Bellhy (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) posted 12 points and eight rebounds.  Locher notched 11 points and four rebounds in 12 minutes for the Presidents, who shot 41 percent (29-of-70).

Woody Mitchell led the Lions with 26 points (6-of-11 three-pointers) and 11 rebounds.

W&J returns to conference play on Wednesday at Grove City (8:00 pm).
