Presidents Rout Wolverines To Complete Series Sweep
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College collected 24 hits and was aided by six Grove City errors as the Presidents swept a Presidents’ Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader from the Wolverines Saturday at Ross Memorial Park. W&J took game one by an 11-4 count and rolled to a 14-2 triumph in the nightcap.
Junior right fielder Josh Staniscia (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) led the Presidents’ offensive outburst with four hits, four runs batted in and a trio of runs scored. Classmate Kyle McLain (East Amherst, N.Y./Canisius) also knocked in four, while junior first baseman D.J. Michalski (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) scored five times and recorded three RBI.
Staniscia got W&J’s momentum started during game one with a two-run, first-inning homer to right, his first of the season.
W&J (13-5, 10-1) added single runs during each of the next three frames and led 5-2 after four innings.
Grove City (1-9, 0-4) fought back, closing to within one after Kyle Shock and Kenny McCracken both collected RBIs during the fifth. The Wolverines threatened for more, but junior right hander Randy Risch (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) retired Zach Struharik to ground out to end the inning.
A six-run sixth inning enabled W&J to put the game away. McLain knocked in two with a base hit and junior catcher Tyler Schultz (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) followed with a double to plate a pair.
Junior right hander Mike Vizzini (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) picked up the win on the mound to even his record at 2-2. Vizzini went 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out one.

The Presidents trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the third inning of game two, but Staniscia pushed Michalski across the plate with a double and two batters later, McLain singled to knock in Staniscia.
The Presidents took control of the game with a five-run fourth and continued to pour it on with four more in the fifth.
Sophomore third baseman Kyle Smith (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) doubled twice and scored a pair of runs during the nightcap, while classmate Vince Falconi (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville) tripled and knocked in three.
