Presidents Shutout On The Road
FROSTBURG, Md. – Playing in its first road game of the season, the Washington & Jefferson women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 match to Frostburg State Tuesday night.
The Bobcats (1-1) got on the board nearly six minutes into the game on shot by Adria Graham that found the upper right corner of the net. FSU continued with the offensive pressure, testing W&J goalkeeper Morgan Kinyon (Stockton, Calif./William Jessup) throughout much of the first half. Chelsie McCoy put Frostburg State up 2-0 late in the first half, popping a shot in off a corner kick.
FSU’s defense made it difficult for the Presidents (0-2) to jump start their offense as they registered just two shots in the opening period, the first coming at the 40:32 mark.
Offensive pressure in W&J’s end continued in the second half for the Bobcats. Stephanie Fazenbaker provided the final insurance marker with 15 minutes remaining in the game by way of a left-footed shot that banked off the post and in.
For the game, the Presidents were outshot 17-8, and 10-5 in shots on goal. Kinyon made seven saves on the night. Senior midfielder Ariel Shasko (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) led W&J with three shots.
Washington & Jefferson returns home for a match at Alexandre Stadium this Saturday (Sept. 7) at 3:00 pm against Ohio Wesleyan.
