Presidents Snap Three-Game Skid With 10-7 Victory Over Marymount

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Senior defenders Ethan Bodie (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Austin Cahill (Bridgewater, N.J./Immaculata) both scored goals to highlight Washington & Jefferson College’s 10-7 non-conference men’s lacrosse victory over Marymount University Saturday at Alexandre Stadium.
The Presidents (3-10) snapped a three-match losing streak and defeated an opponent from the Capital Athletic Conference for the third time in 11 all-time meetings.

W&J never trailed in the match after jumping out to a 2-0 lead.  Bodie scored just over a minute into the second quarter for a 3-1 lead and goals by senior attacker Mark Ringeling (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and junior attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) 2:39 apart put the Presidents ahead 5-3 at halftime.

Washington & Jefferson took control of the game with four unanswered goals in the third quarter, capped by Cahill’s goal at the 1:40 mark.  Marymount closed with a late flourish, but W&J junior goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) collected eight of his 19 saves in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Eck amassed three goals and one assist for the Presidents, while attempting a game-high 12 shots.  Ringeling netted two goals, while five different W&J players also found the back of the net.

Marymount held edges in shots (50-38), ground balls (32-27) and faceoffs (13-6), but the Presidents still pulled out the victory.  Ross Fernandez suffered the loss in goal after making 15 saves.

W&J rounds out a four-match home stand on Wednesday when hosting Thiel at 7:00 pm.
