Presidents Split Once Again In Sunshine State
CLERMONT, Fla. -- For the second-straight day, Washington & Jefferson split its two games at the NTC Softball Games on Monday afternoon. The Presidents (5-5) lost to seventh-ranked Tufts 10-0 in the opener, but bounced back to breeze past Gallaudet 11-0.
Junior Madison Rotto (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) and sophomore Bethany Shepherd (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) combined for the shutout against the Bison. Junior shortstop Kelsey Cunningham (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) led the offense by going 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in. She doubled twice and also walked once.
Rotto reached base three times after going 2-for-3 with a walk, while senior D.J. Ufolla (Pittsburgh, Pa./Perry) and sophomore Breanna Gleason (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) both notched a pair of hits.
Six different Presidents recorded one base hit in the loss to Tufts. Freshman Emily Watson (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) suffered the loss in the circle.
W&J is idle tomorrow, but returns to action on Wednesday with games against New Jersey teams William Patterson (9:00 am) and Ramapo (11:00 am).
