Presidents Split Two Games in Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Behind 21 kills from senior Samantha Chorney (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), the Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team split a pair of Presidents’ Athletic Conference matches in Waynesburg Saturday.
The Presidents fell to Bethany in four sets (15-25, 25-20, 12-25, 10-25), but defeated the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-13, 25-17) to earn their first conference win of the season. W&J improved to 8-4 overall, 1-4 in league action.
Chorney collected double-digit kill numbers in both contests, finishing with 10 against Waynesburg and 11 versus the Bison. Fellow senior Tori Clark (Fall Branch, Tenn./Sullivan South) also racked up 10 kills in the Waynesburg match.
Junior Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) had a solid day at the net, registering 14 total blocks, including seven solo against the Yellow Jackets. W&J picked up strong defensive play from sophomore Nicole Bishwaty (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) as well after she recorded a season-high 18 digs versus WU and 14 against Bethany.
Splitting time at setter, junior Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) dished out 30 assists on the day, while freshman Michealia Skleres (Andover, Ohio/Pymatuning Valley) compiled 31 assists.
Washington & Jefferson returns home next Saturday (Oct. 5) to host Chatham and Thiel for a PAC tri-match. The Presidents will play Chatham at 11:00 am and Thiel at 3:00 pm.
