Presidents Split Two Matches At Home Tournament
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team swept Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 before falling to Denison 3-2 in a thrilling, five-set match during day one of the W&J Tournament at the Henry Memorial Center on Saturday.
Set scores against the Bobcats were 25-23, 25-13, 25-16. The Presidents (2-1) then fell to the Big Red by scores of 13-25, 26-24, 25-19, 21-25 and 14-16.
Sophomore Lindsey Bennett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) led W&J with 21 digs and eight blocks during the two matches. Offensively, she contributed 17 kills.
Freshman Nicole Bishwaty (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) paced the Presidents by contributing 24 kills. Classmate Courtney Grdina (Stow, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) added 29 digs.
Sophomore Megan Stoehr (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) dished out 65 assists to go along with 15 digs.
Day two of the W&J Tournament begins at 11:00 am for the Presidents when they face Allegheny. The team concludes the tournament with a match against Muskingum at 3:00 pm
