Presidents Stretch Win Streak To Three With 20-1 Rout Of Waynesburg
WASHINGTON, Pa. – Junior midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) fired in eight goals and the Washington & Jefferson College defense held Waynesburg to one shot attempt as the Presidents cruised to a 20-1 women’s lacrosse victory on Wednesday evening at Alexandre Stadium.
W&J junior midfielder Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) scored 26 seconds into the match and the Presidents never looked back. Washington & Jefferson, which has won all five games against Waynesburg since the series started in 2008, outshot WU by a 38-1 margin.
The Presidents are off to their third consecutive 3-0 start to a season, while Waynesburg’s record dropped to 1-3. W&J also reached 20 goals in a game for just the third time in school history.
Back-to-back goals from Fradkin made the score 4-0 just over eight minutes into the match. W&J tacked on six more goals to end the half and post a commanding 10-0 advantage at halftime.
The Presidents’ shutout bid ended with 16:25 left when Waynesburg’s Mandy Ormsby scored on a free-position shot.
Fradkin now has a team-high 16 goals this season following her eight-goal evening. Senior midfielder Brittney Oake (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) finished with a nine-point game after accumulating six goals and three assists.
Junior attacker Megan Kelly (South Park, Pa./Seton LaSalle) contributed three goals, while Kraus, senior attacker Lauren Novak (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) and freshman attacker Stephanie Kapuschansky (Williamsburg, Va./York) all added one goal and one assist.
Junior goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) did not have to make a save while earning her third win of the year. Waynesburg goalie Erin Burry turned back 15 shots.
The Presidents, who scored on 6-of-11 free-position shots, return to action on Saturday by traveling to Michigan to face Adrian at 2:00 pm.
