Presidents Suffer 17-7 Setback to Naval Academy

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington and Jefferson College had three players record two-goal efforts, but Division I Navy earned a 17-7 men’s water polo victory on Friday evening in the CWPA North/South Tournament.

The Midshipmen improved to 6-1 overall, while the Presidents’ record was evened at 2-2.

Senior Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep), junior Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) and freshman Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) all scored a pair of goals.  Rish also drew a team-high four kick-outs.

Junior Mike Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) rounded out the W&J goal scorers with one tally.  Classmate Joey Weiland (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) dished out a pair of assists.

Washington & Jefferson goalkeepers split time once again as sophomore Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) started and finished with nine saves, including one stop on a penalty shot.  Freshman Chris DeNunzio (Greenwich, Conn./Canterbury) turned back five Midshipmen shots.

W&J continues play in Annapolis Saturday with matches against Connecticut College (9:00 am) and George Washington (3:00 pm).
