Presidents Suffer Two More Close Florida Setbacks
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Washington & Jefferson College softball team’s losing streak reached five games Monday after the Presidents lost narrow decisions to a pair of Minnesota universities, Bethel and St. Catherine, at the National Training Center Games.
Bethel (4-4) edged the Presidents by a 7-5 margin in the morning, while St. Catherine (3-2) knocked off W&J by a score of 6-5 during the afternoon. Washington & Jefferson’s season record is now 2-8 with four of the losses coming by two runs or less.
Freshmen Susan Lessman (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) and Breanna Gleason (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) led the W&J lineup against Bethel with two hits each. Lessman singled, doubled and knocked in two runs.
Another freshman, Chalese Wilson (Washington, Pa./Chartiers-Houston), was the team’s leading hitter against St. Catherine with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
Washington & Jefferson has the day off tomorrow in Florida, but returns to action on Wednesday with games against Western New England (11:00 am) and Trinity, Conn. (3:00 pm).
