Presidents Sweep Baldwin-Wallace In Ohio
Washington, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson College senior Brittany Vogel (Butler, Pa./Butler) and freshmen Jessica Sweitzer (Laurel, Md./Seton Keough) and Jake Meyers (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock North) were all triple winners in the Presidents’ swimming and diving sweep of Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday afternoon.
The W&J women (3-0) posted a 133-95 victory, while the men’s squad (1-1) was victorious by a 138-100 margin.
In addition, senior Abbey Woodward (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships after a score of 404.15 on the 1-meter diving board (11 dives).
Vogel captured the 100 backstroke (1:03.87) and 200 IM (2:18.69), while also leading the 200 medley relay to a win in a time of 1:55.20. Freshman Charlotte Lima (Brooklyn, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall) and Sweitzer joined Vogel on that relay.
Sweitzer won the 100 (55.68) and 200 (2:00.17) freestyle events, while Lima claimed the 50 freestyle (26.16). Freshman Sara Boldt (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) also topped the field in the 500 (5:24.01) and 1,000 (11:10.23) freestyles.
Junior Katlin Dagg (Mentor, Ohio/Hawken) was another double winner, taking the 100 butterfly (1:02.37) and swimming on the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.03).
Meyers led the W&J men to their first victory of the winter by notching first place in the 200 (1:51.28) and 500 (5:08.70) freestyle events. He also swam a leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:31.81).
Senior Justin Weifenbach (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) won both diving events, racking up 241.95 points at 1-meter and 166.45 points on the 3-meter board.
Both squads return to action on Wednesday when traveling to New Wilmington, Pa., for a 6:00 pm meet with PAC-rival Westminster.
