Presidents In Third After Kravetz First Day
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team sits in third place among six teams after the opening round of the Kravetz Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester Friday at Irondequoit Country Club.
The Presidents (313) are six shots out of the team lead held by RPI (307). Allegheny is second with 312 shots, while Rochester (317), Nebraska Weseleyan (318) and St. Lawrence (329) round out the standings.
W&J's only other appearance at the Kravetz Invitational, which began in 1999, was a fifth-place showing in 2010.
Washington & Jefferson sophomore Matt Stearns (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) led the Presidents on Friday with a round of 76. That score tied for fourth place in the 36-player field.
Freshman Tim Novic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) is tied for seventh place with 77 strokes, while junior Colin Izzo (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and freshman Evan Lestini (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) tied for 13th place with 80 shots. Sophomore Ryan Mazza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) is tied for 33rd place after the first 18 holes following a round of 90.
Day two of the tournament is Saturday and will be played at Oak Hill Country Club, the site of the 2013 PGA Championship.
