Presidents Upended by Harvard and Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Washington & Jefferson wrapped up its opening weekend of the season with a pair of losses to Division I opponents at the Brown Invitational. The Presidents (0-4) suffered a 17-10 setback to Harvard before losing 13-3 to the host Brown Bears 13-3.
In the loss to Harvard, the CWPA's ninth-ranked overall varsity program nationally, freshman Patrick Fredrick (San Francisco, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) scored a team-high three goals, while junior Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) and freshman Josh Apple (Pennridge, Pa./Pennridge) both netted a pair. Senior Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) played the first half in the net and made five saves.
Francisco recorded seven saves in three quarters of play against Brown. The Bears were fourth in the CWPA Preseason Varsity poll. Magdic, sophomore Ben McGrath (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif./Loyola) and freshman Nick Willison (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) were the President goal scorers.
Washington & Jefferson returns to the pool on Saturday for another tournament hosted by a Division I opponent, Bucknell. The Presidents will play Penn State-Behrend, Fordham and Salem International in the one-day event.
