Presidents Upended In W&J Tip-Off Championship Game
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College women’s basketball team fell to Otterbein 70-59 in the championship game of the W&J Tip-Off Tournament at the Henry Memorial Center on Saturday night.
Otterbein, which led from the opening tip, upped its record to 2-0. The Presidents record dropped to 1-2 on the season.
Kristi Kotterman scored a game-high 30 points (8-12 FG) on her way to being named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. She made all nine of her free throw attempts and added seven rebounds and three assists.
Senior Ashley Kirkpatrick (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Sophomore Alexa Burzese (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) nailed a trio of three-point shots on her way to 12 points.
Kirkpatrick and Burzese both earned selections to the All-Tournament Team.
W&J shots just 32 percent (18-56) during the game, while the Cardinals hit on 39 percent of their shots (20-51).
W&J is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Allegheny (7:00 pm).
