Presidents Wrap Up Fall Season At Cedarbrook

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson College men's golf team wrapped up its 2011 fall season this weekend at the two-day California Vulcan Invitational at Cedarbrook Golf Club. The Presidents placed fifth in the five-team, 36-hole event with 619 shots (300 Saturday, 319 Sunday).
The host Vulcans won the tournament with a 20-over par score of 592 (293-299). Clarion was six shots back in second place with 598 strokes (290-308), while Point Park placed third with 615 (302-313). Carnegie Mellon finished fourth with 618 (297-321).
Clarion's Bill Stover won the individual title in the 35-golfer field with an even-par total of 143 (70-73). W&J's top finisher was freshman Ryan Mazza ( Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), who tied for 12th place with 152 strokes (78-74).
Freshman Matt Long ( East Stroudsburg, Pa./Notre Dame) tied for 14th place with 153 shots (78-75), while sophomore Colin Izzo (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) carded 154 strokes (75-79) and tied for 17th.
Freshman Matt Stearns (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) placed 22nd with a two-day score of 156 (72-84), while sophomore Brian Omslaer (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was one stroke back in 23rd place (75-82).
