Ran Kirby Earns Second-Straight Player Of The Week Honor
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- For the second consecutive week, Washington & Jefferson College junior goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) was named the Landmark Conference Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Last week, Kirby became the first President to win a weekly award from the Landmark Conference, which W&J is competing in for the first time in 2012.
Kirby made 27 saves and posted .730 save percentage and 6.6 goals against average, helping W&J (5-10, 1-4) to a 2-0 week. The Presidents defeated Thiel 21-4 on Wednesday and then earned their first-ever Landmark Conference victory, a 9-8 decision against Merchant Marine Academy, on Saturday.
Kirby stopped 5-of-7 shots faced against the Tomcats in 31 minutes of action and then blocked 22 shots versus USMMA.
On Sunday, Kirby broke the Presidents’ single-season saves record with 188 stops this spring. He is already W&J’s all-time saves leader with 491 in 40 career appearances.
Washington & Jefferson closes out its 2012 campaign with a home game against Drew on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm.
