Rish Nets Five Goals As W&J Fends Off NDC 14-13

WASHINGTON, Pa. --  Washington & Jefferson College senior Andy Rish (North East, Pa./Cathedral Prep) totaled seven points with five goals and two assists to lift the Presidents’ men’s water polo team to a 14-13 victory over Notre Dame College on Saturday afternoon at the Henry Memorial Natatorium.

The Presidents (4-7) avenged a loss to NDC by the same score 13 days ago.  The Falcons’ record dropped to 3-10 with the loss.  Two of Rish’s goals came during the fourth period. 

W&J led 5-3 after the first quarter and never trailed in the victory.  Junior Alex Shuey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and freshman Carl Krause (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) both scored three goals.  Shuey added two assists, while Krause contributed one. 

Junior Cameron Chaves (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) also posted a five-point day with two goals and three assists, while freshman Mike Magdic (Franklin Park, Pa./North Allegheny) notched one goal and two assists. 

Sophomore Dan Francisco (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and freshman Chris DeNunzio (Greenwich, Conn./Canterbury) split time in goal.  DeNunzio turned back eight shots, while Francisco had four saves. 

The Presidents converted 3-of-6 extra-man opportunities and return to action tonight with an 8:00 pm game with Penn State-Behrend.
