Ryan and Galligan Earn Top Three Showings At SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Sophomore Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) claimed second place in the women's race, while senior Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) earned third place in the men's race on Friday evening at the 2012 Mack Cooper Cross Country Classic hosted by Slippery Rock University. 

Galligan, who has now been the runner-up in four collegiate races, was the top Division III runner in the 100-woman field with a 6K time of 22:43.42.  Stephanie Case of Slippery Rock was the winner at 22:25.24. 

As a team, the W&J women notched sixth place with 152 points.  Wayne State won the team competition with 35 points followed by Slippery Rock (64), Carnegie Mellon (87), Grove City (98), Clarion (114), W&J and Garrett College (225). 

Ryan (25:58.43) led for half of the 8K men's race before eventually finishing third behind the Wayne State duo of Jimmy Maloney (25:44.08) and Nick Jackson (25:47.27).  Wayne State (29) edged Carnegie Mellon (41) for the men's team championship, while SRU (84), Grove City (101) and W&J (126) rounded out the standings. 

W&J's second-best men's finisher was senior Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg), who took 44th place in the 78-runner field.  Junior Bradley Hanne (Conneaut, Ohio/Center) was 61st (29:19.39). 

Freshmen Keri Reeves (Calimesa, Calif./Yucaipa) and Kaleigh Gallagher (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) were the next best two finishers for the Presidents' women.  Reeves finished in 26:28.23 for 50th place, while Gallagher was 64th with a time of 27:20.22. 

Both squads are back in action in two weeks at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational (10:00 am).
