Ryan and Galligan Once Again Pace W&J In Ohio Rumble

OBERLIN, Ohio – Junior Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) placed seventh to lead the Washington and Jefferson College cross country men, while freshman Kristen Galligan (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) earned eighth place in the women’s race to highlight the Presidents on Saturday at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble. 

Ryan turned in an 8K time of 25:49 and only trailed meet winner Bill Jones of Franciscan by 26 seconds.  Ryan was the top finisher among Presidents’ Athletic Conference teams competing.  A total of 315 male runners ran the 8K course.

Galligan was eighth with a time of 22:45 and was also the top finisher among PAC runners.  Albion’s Lauren Kettle won the individual title in the 282-runner 6K with a time of 22:23.

Albion won the men’s team competition in the 34-team field with 117 points.  Allegheny was second with 140, while Saint Vincent (193), Ohio Wesleyan (204) and Ithaca (230) rounded out the top five squads.  W&J was 30th overall with 772 points.

The women’s field included 33 teams and W&J placed 26th with 708 points.  Oberlin dominated the team competition with 60 points, while Case Western Reserve (147), DePauw (191), John Carroll (193) and Ithaca (201) represented the top five teams.

Sophomore Kia Ruhkamp (Laura, Ohio/Milton-Union) earned 69th place for the W&J women with a time of 24:06, while senior Kaitlyn Loy (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) ran a time of 27:51 to place 247th.  Sophomore Atoosha Hashemi (Fullerton, Calif./Sunny Hills) was 253rd (27:56) and classmate Metzli Rivera (Houston, Texas/Yes Preparatory Southeast) was close behind in 271st place (29:43).

Senior Liann Correia (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester) claimed 278th place (31:20), while sophomore Haley Roberts (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished in 31:31 to place 279th.

Junior Benjamin Kopchick (Clarksburg, Pa./Saltsburg) was the Presidents’ second-best men’s finisher in 143rd place (28:00).  Freshman Joshua Makepeace (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) was 227th (28:53), while classmate Thomas Marcotte (Plainville, Mass./Bishop Feehan) ran the course in 29:45 to place 262nd.

Sophomore Ronald Graf (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Park) posted a time of 30:25 to place 286th, while classmate Bradley Hanne (Conneaut, Ohio/Center) finished one place behind in one-tenths of a second difference.

Both W&J squads will now have two weeks to prepare for the PAC Championships which will be hosted by Westminster College.
