Scott Ryan Earns Capital One CoSIDA All-District Team Recognition
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- For the second-straight year, recent Washington & Jefferson College graduate Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) has been selected to the 2013 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Cross Country/Track & Field Team.
Ryan is one of 11 cross country or track & field student-athletes from a college or university in the state of Pennsylvania named to the team. He is now eligible for the national Academic All-America ballot along with the honorees from the additional seven regions across the country.
The business administration major who owned a 3.40 cumulative grade-point average finished his career with a majority of the top running achievements in school history. He became the first President to run at a NCAA Division III cross country championship in 2012 and earned a repeat showing this past fall, placing 142nd overall. Ryan qualified for the national championships after taking 13th place at the NCAA Mideast Regional for the second consecutive year.
At the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship last fall, Ryan won his first league title after finishing as the runner-up the previous two seasons. He joined Matthew Rudzki (2005, 2007) as the only PAC cross country champions in W&J history.
An U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honoree, Ryan competed in his first national track & field championship last week after qualifying for the 10,000-meter race with a school-record time of 30:04.91 (set at the Bucknell Invitational). Ryan placed 17th of 22 runners at the 2013 NCAA meet.
During the indoor season, Ryan eclipsed his own school record and won the ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship with a time of 15:08.50. That marked his second career ECAC title as he won the outdoor 10,000 meters in 2011.
Ryan competed in his final home meet at the PAC Championships in late April and won his third-straight, 10,000-meter championship. The PAC SAAC Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2012 was named the overall conference track & field MVP as a junior after claiming the 5,000- and 10,000-meter titles.
Ryan leaves his mark on both programs with eight school records: 8K cross country (24:24.60); outdoor track & field 800 meters (1:57.94), 1,500 meters (3:59.47), 5,000 meters (14:44.45) and 10,000 meters (30:04.91); indoor track & field 3,000 meters (9:09.63), 5,000 meters (15:08.50) and distance medley relay (10:36.67).
