Scott Ryan Named PAC SAAC Scholar-Athlete For November

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College senior Scott Ryan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville East) was announced Thursday as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for November 2012.

One of the top runners in school history, Ryan recently capped a standout cross country career as the 2012 PAC champion, becoming only the second male athlete in school history to win a conference title.

He made his second-straight appearance the NCAA Division III Championships and placed 142nd in the 280-runner field.  In 2011, he made the first W&J male appearance at the national championship meet and earned 175th place.

Ryan qualified for the 2012 NCAA championship by finishing 13th for the second consecutive year at the NCAA Mideast Regional.  Earlier this fall, Ryan ran to first place for the second time at the Waynesburg Invitational.  He finished among the top four runners in five-of-seven regular-season races.

During the spring season, Ryan is a Capital One Academic All-District competitor for the track & field program.  He captured league championships in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter events en route to collecting the overall 2012 PAC Track & Field MVP award.  He was also second in the 1,500 meters (4:01.44).

Ryan, who owns eight school records (2 cross country, 2 indoor track & field, 4 outdoor track & field), maintains a 3.4 grade-point average as a business administration major.  He is actively involved in W&J’s Business Club, is the Presidents’ SAAC Cross Country representative and has also served as a student fellow in the College’s Office of Admission.
