Second-Half Rally Gets Dickinson Past W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Dickinson scored three goals during the final 10 minutes of regulation to rally past Washington & Jefferson College in field hockey action at Cameron Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Presidents (8-5) and Red Devils (6-7) played to an evenly matched first 35 minutes as the teams entered halftime scoreless. Senior Erin Barno (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) recorded W&J’s two shots on goal, while Dickinson tallied one shot.

Seniors Jennifer Marabella (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) and Arielle King (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) combined on the first two goals of the game for W&J.  King fed Marabella on a 2-on-1 break and Marabella beat Dickinson goalie Katy Schlechtweg for the game’s opening tally.  Nine minutes later, King again sent a pass to Marabella, who smacked it into the back of the cage to up the Presidents’ lead to two.

Taylor Meehan started the Dickinson rally by scoring with 9:38 left to play.  Caroline Karwel evened the game just over two minutes later.  The Red Devils took the lead for good when Tanya Bellingham deflected home Allison Forhan’s long pass with just 2:50 remaining in regulation.

W&J, which saw its four-match winning streak come to an end, recorded six shots on goal, led by four from Marabella. Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Brozena (Telford, Pa./Souderton) made two saves, while Schlechtweg stopped four shots.

The Presidents look to rebound on Saturday when they travel to Houghton for a noon match.
