Shaner Awarded PAC Defensive Player Of The Week

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson junior women’s soccer player Hannah Shaner (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) was named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Shaner led the Presidents (14-3-1) to two shutout victories last week as they claimed their first PAC regular-season title in school history and extended their unbeaten streak to 13 games (12-0-1).

Shaner has been a big part of a defense that has allowed just 12 goals all season.  W&J has 12 shutouts this fall, good for 14th in NCAA Division III, and is one shy of tying the school record, set in 2008.

During her three seasons at W&J, she has started 59 games, while tallying one goal, two assists and 39 shots. Shaner helped the defense set a school record-low with just 16 goals allowed during the 2010 season, a number that could be broken this year.

W&J hosts Waynesburg in the PAC Tournament semifinals on Tuesday night at Alexandre Stadium at 7:00 pm.
