Shihao Liang Selected As PAC Men’s Tennis Player of The Week

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Washington & Jefferson College freshman Shihao Liang (Henan Province, China) was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week on Monday by the conference office.

Liang made his collegiate debut on Sunday and helped W&J open the season with a 7-2 victory at Pitt-Greensburg.

Liang defeated UPG’s Navid Pouranian (6-4, 6-1) at No. 2 singles and also teamed with freshman Samuel Miller (Cheswick, Pa./Shady Side Academy) to post an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles.

The victory was the first at W&J for first-year Head Coach Chris Faulk.  Liang was the Presidents’ first PAC Player of the Week since March 2010.  Ironically, Faulk, a former PAC Player of the Year, was the last W&J player honored by the conference for the weekly award.

Sunday’s victory also marked the 400th team win for the W&J men’s tennis program.  Washington & Jefferson owns a 400-343-16 tennis record since the varsity sport was introduced at the college in 1916.
