Susquehanna Trips Up Presidents In Landmark Lacrosse
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Susquehanna broke a 6-6 halftime tie with the first 10 goals of the second half and the Crusaders ran away with a 16-10 Landmark Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Washington & Jefferson on Friday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The Crusaders (6-6, 2-2 Landmark) had nine different players score goals, including a three-goal, four-assist effort from Dustin Breakey.
During the loss, W&J junior goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) became the Presidents’ all-time saves leader after compiling 19 stops. He now has 429 saves in three seasons with the Presidents.
The first half featured four ties and two lead changes. W&J went ahead 6-4 after junior midfielder Sean Hipley’s (Baltimore, Md./Towson Catholic) goal at the 3:54 mark of the second quarter. However, SU fought back to force the halftime tie after Austen Lein and Marcus Cheatham scored 12 seconds apart.
Susquehanna blanked the Presidents 6-0 during the third quarter after attempting 15 of the 20 shots during the period. The Crusaders added the first four goals of the fourth quarter to build a 16-6 advantage.
W&J broke a 32-plus minute scoring drought when senior attacker Mark Ringeling (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) scored with 2:16 left. He added another goal, his third of the match, 28 seconds later.
Lein and Luke Delavan both finished with three goals and one assist for the Crusaders, who outshot W&J 48-27. Susquehanna also dominated the faceoffs, winning 22-of-28.
